Choosing The Perfect Wording For Memorials

Lettering
styles

At Fine Memorials, we value traditional skills and are proud to offer a wide range of lettering techniques and finishes. You can choose from sandblasting, hand chiselling, machine cutting, inlaid lead and raised lead which are all available in a variety of different finishes. We have been working on a new finish to add to what we can offer; Glitter Letters. We are one of few mason’s in the UK that can offer this type of finish.

Finishes

The finish you choose is what brings the inscription to life. Our modern machine-cut and sandblasted letters can be painted in a wide selection of colours to complement the stone, or for a truly classic look, gilded with the timeless elegance of 23.5ct gold leaf. For those seeking something unique, our exclusive Glitter Lettering provides a beautiful, sparkling finish, while for traditional stones like slate, classic inlaid lead offers a distinguished and durable result.

The Art of Hand-Cut Lettering

In an age of machines, the time-honoured skill of hand-cutting an inscription is a truly special art form. This traditional method is a testament to the ultimate in craftsmanship, where our master stonemasons meticulously draw and then carve each individual letter by hand using a chisel and mallet. It is a slow, precise process that can take many hours, resulting in a unique, V-shaped letter that has a depth and character that cannot be replicated by a machine. Each hand-cut inscription is a bespoke work of art, a personal and permanent tribute created with unparalleled skill. To witness this incredible process, we welcome you to watch the video of one of our master craftsmen at work.
